Getting out of debt requires going over your finances with a fine tooth comb and eliminating every little bit of waste.

Every bill that you pay needs a second look.

How often do you use that gym membership? And if you have more than one gym membership – pick one. Preferably the cheaper one, but to be practical, make sure it’s one that you use regularly.

What fees could you slash from your cell phone bill? Is texting a necessity? Not when you’re struggling to get out of debt, it isn’t. Are you using all of your minutes? Do other cell phone companies offer cheaper rates?

Do you really need a home phone AND a cell phone? If you do, consider paying for unlimited long distance phone calls from your home phone and lowering the amount of minutes you use your cell phone. Just use the cell phone for emergencies.

Are you paying fees at your bank? Banks are vying for your business these days. If your bank is charging you fees, take your business elsewhere.

Magazine subscriptions – You could read those magazines for free at the library, and check out some free books while you’re at it.

Did you take out a low interest rate credit card and forget to switch when the term expired?

Do you need HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax? Do you even need cable? It may feel like a necessity but it’s really a luxury to have cable TV when you owe people money that you can’t repay.

If you scour through all of your bills it is almost a certainty that you will find areas where you could cut back significantly.
